Grouping products into collections

Products

How collections work, what a handle is for, and why deleting one does not delete your products.

A collection is a named group of products: Summer, Gifts under 200, Best sellers. Shoppers browse your store by collection, so this is how you give a long product list a shape someone can actually shop.

Creating a collection#

  1. Open Collections and choose Add collection.
  2. Give it a title. That is what shoppers see.
  3. Pick the products it contains, then drag the display order into the order you want them shown in.
  4. Set the status and create it.

You need products before you can build a collection. If your store is empty, add products first and come back.

The handle#

The handle is the part of the collection's web address. You set it yourself when you create the collection, and you can change it later. Changing the handle of a collection you have already shared changes its link, and the old link stops working, so it is worth settling early.

Active, draft, archived#

  • Active: shoppers can see and browse it.
  • Draft: only you can see it. Use this while you are still deciding what goes in.
  • Archived: kept but out of the way. Nothing is deleted.

Deleting a collection#

Deleting a collection removes the grouping only. Every product in it stays in your store, on sale, exactly as it was. If you want a product gone, delete the product.
